Frequently Asked Questions

We take a balanced & holistic approach when working with dogs. We know their intrinsic needs as well as how to satisfy them. Dogs are nonverbal animals, we read their body language and translate our verbal language in a way that makes sense to the dog. Their language is physical which is why we use the leash or the e collar to help bridge our two ways of speaking.

How do you all train dogs?

Over the years its been called a million things, Balanced Training, NePoPo, natural training, behavioral training- to us it's all the same.

We reward the dogs for good behavior, hold them accountable to preform said behavior, and correct bad behavior.

We are big on using food and toys in training. We are also focused on being precise and fair in our corrections.

When can I stop using food?

We hate fading away from food. Think of it less of a bribe, and more like a paycheck. Kibbles are dollar signs. Would you work for no pay? We don't, and we don't expect the dogs to, either.

Can you train Service Dogs?

Yes, we have trained mobility, psychiatric, and medical response canines who are actively serving their handlers.

For K9 Communication to take on such an import role in your health we have a steep requirement of:

Two separate 6 Week Board & Train bookings or two sets of 10-pack lessons; In Home and In Public.

Service dog handlers must also source their own gear which includes:
-Slip Leashes slip lead
-2.25mm Herm Spenger
-Mini Educator from E Collar Technologies
-Treat Pouch (Viola is our favorite)

Do you use pinch and shock collars?

Short answer? Yes.

Long answer: the first tool we use in our program is a slip lead. After we teach the dog how to use a slip lead and how to receive payment we may use to a more advanced tool.

Often times, these tools are best suited for dogs having difficulties with reactivity, fear, aggression, or just regular off leash capabilities!

My dog is dog aggressive, can he go on a Pack Walk?

We do reserve Pack Walks for our On Leash and Off Leash Graduates, to ensure the safety of our other dogs.

Set up a private lesson to get started towards your Pack Walk Goals!

Can you train my dog to protect me?

That answer is soley based upon how much genetic ability your dog has to stand up in a fight. We can use prey drive to develop grips, and generalize those grips to different pieces of bite equipment if your dog loves to play tug. That equipment can go as far as the bite suit itself. Will your dog want to fight a human? That depends on how much your dog likes to fight.

We would say its more likely we can build your dog into a sport dog rather than a true Protection Dog.

We do source Protection Dogs for executives, families, or anyone needing the comfort of a second set of eyes and ears.
